Whirlwind of Change
Whirlwind of Change
Winds of Change The series of five works explores the condition of our world and the rapid pace at which it has been changing. It speaks to the wonderful chaos that has been generated by the winds of change in our new global digital world. It questions the relationships between international business, industry and our environment.  It expresses the new energy that has become associated with our connected world.

It also acknowledges the power of the winds of change and questions how we are going to unite in a positive way to protect and conserve our world’s environment from destruction both man made and the forces of nature. It addresses the temporary attempts that are being made to hold together our world as the winds of change continue to blow and affect our course.

The process of producing these pieces is part of the statement on the new digital technology and how it can be utilized to produce art. There was no camera, no film and no digital card used to produce the original images even though it is obvious that pieces of the images appear photographic. The original images are done directly on a scanner and printed digitally on an Epson 9800 printer.

The Shanghai pieces
are slow shutter digital captures shot in camera to stress the movement, energy and change that is happening right now in Shanghai, and China in general with their building and business boom.

The X Change of 2008

This piece is a multimedia piece that is a combination of materials including natural woods, metal veneer, wire and fabric netting. The imagery is digitally printed on the wood and metal pieces. The color and textural areas are layered with etching inks and painted with acrylic paints.

It is about the winds of change creating positive and negative change which generate chaos, energy, and rebirth. The winds fuel the fires and can destroy homes yet they can also turn, redirect and save homes. The fires scorch the landscape but they also regenerate the forests and the wild flowers. The economy can turn the housing market upside down but it also provides opportunities in other arenas. As the winds of change cross the landscapes of our lives … the promise of new beginnings is always on the horizon.
